DiningSmart staff found out about the story of Anna Karavayeva, as of today slim lady from Moscow, who was born in Saint Petersburg, doctor by education and profession, who lost 30kg, and asked Anna to share it with readers of our “You Can Do

“I have never been slim. I always had a large weight. From the childhood I liked to eat a lot and craved for food. Though if for a kid it might have seemed cute to eat a lot, older I got, my obesity looked not that cute any more. My weight was getting into FAT. I did not have any concerns about it though. I just knew that I had extra weight. But I just did not realize it mentally. It was hard to choose the wardrobe. I was not interested in boys; I did not have any friends, girls. I was just comfortable with my weight. I could walk alone in the city, and spend the evenings reading the books or at computer.


Starting the age of 17, I started my first attempts to lose weight. They were not persuasive. I tried many diets, but they did not help me. How is it possible to eat the buckwheat during the whole week in a row or half spoon of salad??? “Diets” were done in 2-3 days. Then I decided to try taking the pills. Yes, there was a progress seen, I started to lose weight, and managed to lose 7 kg. But then I gained another 15 kg though. Then I met one guy, he was satisfied with my body. Then I met another guy. And everything was perfect. I have a boyfriend, personal life is good. However, there was something inside of me that ate me. I did not love myself. I did not like the look which sales women gave me in the stores or surprised looks from neighbor tables in McDonalds where I took for myself only: French fries, baked potato, nuggets, bigmac, large coke and cake. All this I could eat in a second.
 
 
Nobody believed in me and supported. 
Everyone was saying that maximum weight I will lose is 5kg. 
 
That moment has come in New Year. I, as millions of other people, decided to start the new life in New Year. I started to search for the suitable diet. Two things which mattered to me: there shall be lots of things to eat, and it should be tasty. And among many diets, I found mine: to calculate calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates. It was not easy and simple. It was hard. I still wanted to eat sandwiches, fried potato, potato chips and soda. I was crying and in a crying jag was making myself sandwiches, took a bite and spitted out.  Soon I managed to deal with it. I found my rescue in vegetable salads and soups. As it turned out, you could eat a large bowl of salad plus large plate of soup, but the amount of calories it contained was not more than my sandwiches snacks. However, the salad plus soup was a full meal, and I did not want to eat after that for a long time. Then I bought the steamer pot and began to steam vegetables and fish which was very tasty. This is how I started to eat healthy.

My main motivator was weight scales.  I was weighing myself every morning and evening. Watching the loss of weight of 100-150 grams, I was happy as a kid. It was easier to reach the small goal. At first I reached 84kg, then 84.5, then 83, 80, 75, 70, 65… I was not afraid to lose the half kilogram, but in total those half kilo were made into kilograms, dozens of kilograms. Nobody believed in me and supported. Everyone was saying that maximum weight I will lose is 5kg. My family was eating fried chicken and sweet pastry and I was sitting with them and ate green apples. When the weight began to decline, people surrounding me began to notice it. It was strange though, but they started to criticize me: why are you doing this, you are beautiful as you are, without losing the weight. But I could not stop.
 
 
I did not get along with sport. I am lazy. While losing the weight, I was trying to start doing sports about 10 times. Having practiced during a week, I stopped going to sports, since I was losing the weight anyways. Also from the childhood I had strong red linear atrophy on hips. Turpentine bath helped me to make them whiter and less noticeable. Bath certainly smelt not good, but family was tolerant to it.
 

This is how I reached the weight of 55kg. Now I continue to eat healthy, eat a lot of vegetables and soups. I began to actively be in sports, not even for body, but for pleasure. I love snowboarding now and lift barbells. It is now much more interesting to me, than dancing for 1.5 hours having red face. I study sport dining, since muscles need protein. I still love fresh bakery and sometimes let myself buying the pastry. Though I do not eat what I ate before and in that amounts, it became not tasty for me anymore. Chips make my stomach ache, soda is too sweet.
 
 
As a result I said No - to pills. Healthy dining and sport do help! ”
