Vegetarianism is a system of nutrition which either excludes or limits the consumption of foods of animal origin.

Does vegetarianism have a beneficial effect on the human body and helps to achieve the longevity? In order to answer this question, we must first find out whether all the substances required for the maintaining of a normal functioning of the human body are contained in plant products. The numerous health observations of people, who have not been eating animal food for decades, showed that their health is not worse than those of who has been eating meat regularly. In fact, vegetarians have a lower risk of cardio-vascular, cancer, and endocrine diseases. Eventually, most of them have their skin remaining smooth, as well as their hair remaining black. Not to mention, that they feel fresh and energetic.

As a matter of fact, the basic principle of vegetarianism is the “naturalness”. This means, it is not recommended to abandon the consumption of meat by force. The only reason to exclude the animal food from your diet is when you lose a desire to eat meat, have an aversion to meat products, or their consumption causes nausea and discomfort. In this case, your health and well-being should not be deteriorated, your body should stay vigorous and mind should stay clear. Only then the vegetarianism would be natural, and would have a positive effect on health.

Important to emphasize the fact, that the vegetarian diet must necessarily include soya, beans and other legumes, as well as vegetable oil, as they contain necessary to human substances, which cannot be found in other products of plant origin.

Vegetarians are divided into several groups according to the degree of limiting the consumption of animal food. “The old vegetarians” believe that the only acceptable food is products of animal origin. This is called a strict vegetarian diet, wherein the meat, fish, milk products and eggs are excluded. The doctors and nutritionists have a sharply negative attitude to such a diet, because the human organism will be in lack of complete protein, some vitamins and calcium.

The lacto-vegetarian diet, which includes dairy products, is more acceptable. It is especially good for elderly people; however, it can be used only for a short period of time. Moreover, beans and nuts, wholegrain bread, berries, fruits and vegetables, as well as vegetable oils should be necessarily included in such a diet. In this case, the variety of products is much more important compared to a normal diet which includes meat and fish.

The so-called lacto-vegetable-vegetarian diet, which includes eggs, is also suitable for long-term use: it provides the body with everything needed, including B12 vitamin, which cannot be found in plant foods, as well as calcium and iron.

A separate group of vegetarians promotes the special benefit of a raw food diet which includes all the plants foods, for example, cereals and potatoes. They claim that some products, particularly the raw ones, can serve a good source of protein. However, there are some faults with this statement. This can be explained by the fact that the proteins, which are contained in most raw vegetable products, are less likely to be affected by the digestive enzymes and thus difficult to digest.

Nonetheless, there is still a question: do vegetarians have a risk? Some people say that the vegetable diet is more suitable for human rather than that of a purely animal one. Likewise, there’s an opinion, that a person does undergo the deprivation of animal food rather than plant products. Overall, it should be taken into account, that the comprehensibility of a particular food is very personal thing. Yet the mixed diet with vegetarian orientation still remains the best diet.
